Rachel has previously photographed communities and families in rural Kenya, India, and Asia, and joined them in their excitement and joy upon seeing themselves in this unusual manner (sometimes for the first time). Unfortunately she never had previously the opportunity to physically give any of these families an actual photograph.
This July, Rachel is visiting Vanuatu, Port Vila and islands of Nguna and Tongoa, taking Bluey the Camera to escape the Sydney winter. From small village locals, to school children, to fisherman, to shopkeepers the act of my taking, then giving them, their own family portraits should be a very special moment for them all.
This picture of Rachel’s family was taken in Loisaba, Kenya just after she finished High School. It instantly triggers for her all of the highlights, fond memories, and at times, frightening experiences (namely nearly being trampled by elephants) she shared with my family on this trip.
