Katie will taking her own camera to Arnhem Land in the Northern Territory, Australia. Katie’s brother, Matt works as an aircraft engineer for the not-for-profit organisation Mission Aviation Flight (MAF). MAF provide flights to remote communities in many countries worldwide with essentials like medical evacuations and community development. This year he was assigned to Arnhem Land in the Northern Territory. Katie will be given access to a very special place in Australia as a permit is needed from the Northern Land Council before you visit Arnhem Land. Katie is hoping the power of photography will highlight the lives of the people in Arnhem Land and open the eyes of a majority of Australians to this region. Katie is also very excited to be meeting her nephew, Jonathan for the first time whilst visiting Matt and her sister-in-law Becky in Arnhem Land.
Katie has also travelled to the highlands of Papua New Guinea to take portraits. She was so amazed by the reaction of showing people, who hadn’t seen themselves in a photo before, their own image back to them in a photo. So for Katie, Portrait Equality reminds her of this experience as she would love to find the same people and give them prints to keep.
