Rachel will be taking Rosella the camera this May, with her parents and older brother on a 12 day Alpamayo circuit trek in the Cordillera Blanca of Northern Peru in South America. They will pass through some remote high altitude villages and she expects to photograph some of the people there.
After the trek, Rachel and her brother will be travelling by boat along the Amazon River from Iquitos in Peru to Manaus in Brazil. She hopes to photograph the many interesting people living in the jungle who would like a portrait of their family. Rachel thinks Portrait Equality is a great project that is based on a really simple but strong idea and feels it would be a priviledge to be able to give a physical photograph as a gift to the people she meets.
Being the youngest of six children, Rachel remembers the dinner table at home and car trips with the family being pretty crowded growing up. As all the children got older, everyone moved out of home to various parts of Australia and the world, so they are rarely all together. Her favourite photo was taken Christmas last year of her family together, missing a few important members.
