Tess is a teacher aide/admin/all rounder at a school in Aurukun, a remote Aboriginal community in Cape York, Queensland. She is also studying a Masters in social work. She loves dancing and working with kids. Lachy is a muscular-skeletal therapist in Melbourne. He is a keen basketballer and awesome singer.
Tess and Lachy are cousins heading to Africa to meet Tess’ sister who is currently working with an NGO in Lesotho on climate change adaptation programs. They will be spending some of their time visiting and photographing some of the programs she assists, many of which are with farmers. Tess and Lachy hope to give the gift of a family portrait to some of the farmers and other people that her NGO work with.
They will also be travelling through South Africa, Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe and Madagascar where they will meet some local communities whom they will share the joy of a family portrait with. They would love to continue using photography throughout the rest of the trip in any way that can give back to the communities we will be visiting and being a Portrait Equality photographer would clearly be one way that we could do that.
Tess and Lachy’s favourite photo is of their grandparents and their other cousins at a Christmas party a long time ago. They have a large but close extended family, which includes four generations. Their family gatherings are full of laughter, chaos and plenty of photos (they have many photographers in their midst).
